Jasmine Davidson

Hi, my name is Jasmine Davidson and I have just recently finished being treated for cancer.

My story begins when I was in year 6. I was like any normal 11 year old except I had very swollen glands in my neck. After two years of not knowing what was wrong, including many visits to both my GP and many other specialists, they still had no real answers.

I was absolutely fed up with my swollen neck. Mum and Dad said we would go back to the doctors and get to the bottom of it. After a CT scan my doctor was a little more alarmed. I went to hospital and was immediately sent to see an Oncologist, and at that stage I had know idea what they did. Mum told me they treat cancer patients and maybe that’s what was wrong with me - that I had some sort of cancer. I started to freak out.

I saw the doctor, who told me he was 99.5% certain I had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He said I would need surgery to have a biopsy and a central line for Chemotherapy. He promised two things; I would not die and I would lose my hair.

I was diagnosed with stage 3b Hodgkin’s Lymphoma which means it had progressed to a very severe stage. I under went 8 months of treatment and every month got very sick and had to spend time in hospital. After each treatment I became weaker and weaker. I could hardly walk because of the effects of the Chemo drugs on my muscles. I now need to wear casts on my legs, just another thing to set me back. I watch my netball team play nearly every week and come home and cry because I am unable to play the sport I love.

I was very honoured to be asked to represent Cure Our Kids cause I have seen first hand how much easier they make life during and after treatment for kids like me and our families.
